The blue whale is the largest animal on the planet and in history. And as it happens every winter, it is possible to admire it in the Sea of Cortez. Guided and certified sightings are carried out in the area of the Bay of Loreto BCS National Marine Park following official regulations.

The blue whale is one of the longest-lived animals and usually performs its main biological functions in the Sea of Cortez. They generally travel alone, are not very social and feed on krill, which are small crustaceans similar to shrimp.

Its world population is about 25 thousand individuals and a little more than 1,400 in Mexican waters, but its sighting is not easy, however in the Loreto area this year 20 specimens were registered.

The ideal season to see this gigantic cetacean up close from the seas of Alaska is from January to early April in the Sea of Cortez.
